So, Orvieto is truly a magical place due to the fact that there was a gelato festival this weekend!!! 20 flavors from 20 regions!!! SO DELICIOUS!!!! For 7 Euro, you could buy 5 tickets that would get you a small cup of the flavor of your choosing. And the choosing was quite difficult. I used 4 of my tickets on the first day, which might not have been the best decision for my body, but it was far too hard to resist.
The first flavor I tried was Sorbetto di limoni e basilico (lemon and basil sorbet) from Liguria. Completely unexpected but super delicious! (I actually went back later for this flavor with my last ticket.)
After that, I tried Sorbetto di fragola e Cartizze (strawberry sorbet with prosecco) from Veneto. This was also ridicuously delicious.
The next flavor was Terre Marchigiane Cannella e zafferano con scorzette di arancio (cinnamon, saffron, and orange zest) from Marche.
The final flavor I tried was Zabaione al vino Calcaia Muffa Nobile e “Dolce Orvieto” (some kind of eggnog and Orvieto wine combo) from Umbria.
That evening a cafe in town was having 60’s night, so I ended up going there as well and got a Zombie. (No clue what was actually in it, but it was really delicious.)
All in all, Orvieto is a pretty magical town when it comes to food. There was even a chocolate festival over Easter weekend, but I unfortunately don’t have any pictures of that. :(
